Today, I'm excited to cross another WiP off of my seemingly ever growing to-sew list. Let me introduce my newest finish, Black and White Kites!
I whipped up this quilt top more than 7 months ago, and had it backed and basted right away. Why it sat unquilted for so long I honestly don't know since it's usually basting the holds up my projects (tell me I'm not the only one who dreads basting!). While I can't give you an explanation for the delay, I have to say that I'm happy I procrastinated.

I'm glad I waited to finish this quilt for for two reasons: (1)
I really wasn't feeling inspired on how to quilt it and didn't want to rush the
process; and (2) I needed a hand project for a recent road trip and this already
basted quilt fit the bill perfectly.
If you follow us on Instagram (@everydayfray) you may have seen a couple of in-progress hand
quilting pics of this project taken during our drive down to Seattle. Lucky for me, after I finished the
quilting, I was able to borrow Amanda's machine in Seattle to stitch on the
binding, ready for me to hand bind it on the road trip home.
Overall I was really happy with how this quilt came together,
regardless of how long this finish took. I love the texture that the hand
quilting adds to both the quilt top and backing. My first foray into hand
quilting was on my Sew Positive Baby Quilt last month, so I was thrilled to
try it out a second time so soon. Although I'm an obsessive finisher, this
project reminds me that sometimes slowing down and taking your time can deliver
a product that is worth the wait.
Final Quilt Details:
- Quilt Name: Black & White Kites Quilt

Beautiful finish! The hand quilting adds so much to the quilt. And I love that colour combo. :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt! I used to dread basting, until I found out about basting spray. Love that stuff. Not sure how it would work on queen & king sized, but I've used it on twin and smaller with no issue. Major time saver!
ReplyDeleteLove the quilting! It really added to the quilt in a way that machine quilting couldn't have. Beautiful finish!
ReplyDeleteIt's great! I love the black/white as the feature and the vivid colour as the background. What beach are you at there??
ReplyDeleteP.S. I don't like basting either but I have gotten better and faster at it than I used to be. I so I don't dread it as much as I used to, so there is hope!
The black, white and blue on the front are great. I also love how you choose a different BRIGHT fabric for the back. So fun!
ReplyDeletelove this quilt, I hate basting which is why I bought a frame lol... I think I'm going to have to try more perle cotton quilting, I love other people's but not sure i've got the patience. thanks for linking up
ReplyDeleteBeautiful finish! I love the black and white against the bright blue background!
ReplyDeleteThis is stunning! I love the contrast of the black and white with the blue. And your hand quilting is perfect! Love it :)
ReplyDeleteI absolutely love your colour choices! Fantastic job, well done!
ReplyDeleteI love how the hand quilting softens a really modern quilt. It's beautiful!
ReplyDeleteWill be lovely Kelsey!
ReplyDeleteAlso, it seems like something is mixed up with your comments for some reason. All the comments are about a quilt (including a comment from me a little ways up) Hmmmmm
That is so pretty! I agree with you about the basting, but I have an easier time managing the baby quilts. It's basting the big ones that kills me.
